Vol. 36: Greatest hits, one year in
Dear friends,
Last Thursday, February 10 marked one year of this newsletter! I’ve always hesitantly considered myself a writer - or least harbored a desire to be one - but struggled to maintain a regular writing practice. This newsletter has allowed me to hit my stride, pushed me to write regularly beyond an IG caption, and also helped me build and strengthen some beautiful connections in a year of so much transition. I’m so grateful to all of you for subscribing, whether you’ve been subscribed since day one or yesterday.
For year two, I want to incorporate more joy and fun in the newsletter. I’m not quite sure what that looks like yet. I’ve spent the first month of 2022 in hibernation - writing, cooking new recipes, lounging under fuzzy blankets reading books or rewatching bad TV - and while it’s been necessary, even restorative, I know I need more joy and delight in my life. I’d like my newsletter to reflect that.
On the other end, I want to continue to push myself to be more vulnerable and tackle difficult topics. My wife once said to me during a tough conversation, “Being emotional is not the same as being vulnerable.” Shoutout to her for completely wrecking my life by holding me accountable, LOL. It’s an important truth - I’m an emotional creature and don’t shy away from it,, but it doesn’t always mean I’m being vulnerable. I want to dive a bit deeper in 2022.
That said, here are some of my self-appointed “greatest hits” of the past year.
Thoughts from a queer COVID bride, March 2021
My relationship to relationships: Thoughts on friendship & justice, March 2021
Reading beyond our preconceptions, May 2021
Making the yuletide gay, December 2021
Privacy & the parasocial, January 2022
Thank you again for all of the support of the past year! I love interacting with you - if you have any feedback, or a topic you'd like to see covered in the newsletter, email me. And finally, if you’re a fan of the newsletter, please forward to a friend or share on social media.
